AVID Student Mentoring

The Mountain View Chamber of Commerce supports and promotes the business community and help support the unique and vibrant quality of life in Mountain View. The Chamber hosts AVID student Interns twice a year (Spring and Winter) to facilitate engagement with the business community. Our goal with the AVID students mentoring program is to connect with them potential business partners in hopes of establishing future intern opportunities. This is beneficial because it builds their leadership skills, prepares them for future jobs and builds a caring community.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program that started in 1980 and serves first generation college students of all backgrounds in their path to college and hopes to close the achievement gap. AVID is offered in more than 2,000 schools in the US and in the 2013-2014 school year, 78% of the AVID students who applied  were accepted into 4-year colleges. It also makes sure students stay on track and get involved in and outside of school through internships and community service opportunities.
